Personality and the Fate of Organizations

New Book by Robert Hogan, Hogan Assessment Systems

Robert Hogan, Ph.D., author of the Hogan Personality Inventory, has long been a proponent of the idea that the fate of organizations (including governments) is heavily influenced by the personalities of key individuals. To many that may be a no-brainer, but in academic cirlces it has long been a point of debate. Now, Hogan has a new book forthcoming: Personality and the Fate of Organizations. It will be published by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates in August, 2006.

Hogan says his book is about using personality to understand, evaluate, select, deselect and train managers, to staff teams, and to understand organizations. In the preface, he writes, “… the book strives to be non-technical and hopefully will interest anyone who is curious about people, careers, and organizational politics.” We haven’t seen the material yet, but Hogan’s other works have been thoughtful, provocative, and readable. He says this one offers a great deal of empirical data, and that the major statements and claims are supported by evidence. Read a two-page flyer about the book, which includes prepublication ordering information.
